Depression is a funny thing, except there is not much to laugh at. It’s a very tricky experience because of how it shows up in our lives. When I have supported people with depression, it is often not “sadness” (which is what many people seem to think), but instead it often looks like feelings of hopelessness, or a lack of energy or perhaps an “empty” pit in what feels like our inside, that we carry around and can’t seem to shake – no matter what we try.
Depression isn’t just feeling ‘down’ or sad for a few days. It can feel like a heavy fog that makes it difficult to find joy or motivation. Common feelings include:
•A constant sense of sadness or emptiness
•Losing interest in things you once enjoyed
•Feeling overwhelmed by even the smallest tasks
•Low self-esteem or feelings of worthlessness
•Irritability, frustration, or crying for no apparent reason
•Difficulty sleeping, oversleeping, or changes in appetite
•A sense of hopelessness about the future
Depression can affect every part of your life — your relationships, work, and overall sense of wellbeing. But it’s important to remember that help is available, and things can get better with the right support.
In our work together, we’ll take a compassionate, non-judgemental look at your experience. We’ll explore what’s contributing to your depression and develop strategies to help you feel more in control. Together, we can:
•Understand the root causes of your depression, including past trauma, stress, or negative thought patterns
•Explore how depression is affecting your life and your relationships
•Build coping strategies to manage feelings of sadness and hopelessness
•Challenge negative self-talk and limiting beliefs
•Develop healthier habits to improve mood, energy, and motivation
Through therapy, we’ll work together to identify the underlying causes of your depression and create a plan to help you move forward.
It’s easy to feel isolated or misunderstood when you’re struggling with depression. But you don’t need to carry this burden on your own. With the right support, you can start to feel more grounded, regain your energy, and find ways to reconnect with the things and people you care about.
If you’re ready to explore how counselling might help, or just want to have a chat about your experience, please get in touch. I offer a free, confidential initial consultation where we can talk about how I can best support you.
